Our bonus and final stop on the Emilia Delizia Food Tour was a winery luncheon at a small family organic winery.
I am not going to say this is my favorite stop on the Tour, but it was.
We had a beautiful day.
We started with short tour of the winery, and talking about the grapes of the region – Lambrusco (a Sangiovese) and Trebbiano.
Paolo, again, did a fabulous job explaining the wines.
Typically, this wine region of Italy is considered secondary to the better known regions of Tuscano and Piemonte.
However, the grapes and wine markers are starting to come into their own, and are improving the wines of this region. In fact, we had a great Lambrusco when we ate at Lazy Bear in San Francisco.
After the tour, we settled into the dining room for our tasting and lunch.
The ceiling in the dining room was painted by the wife of the owner.
Just beautiful work. As the fire in the fireplace crackled and popped, we started the wine tasting.
Then came the food.
And more food.
So much food!
Super bonus, the owner of the winery gave us (and the other couple) a bottle of balsamic vinegar.
With our belly’s full, we decided to walk off some of the food comma before heading back to Modena.
I found an old foosball table, and I am trying to convince Mr. J that his family tournament should be held here this year.
Seriously Mr. Commissioner (you know who you are), this would be a great spot. Just saying….
Mr. J was in his element here, and took several scenic photos of the property.
This stop was like visiting a friends house. If you like commercial/corporate vineyards, then this is about as good as it gets. This organic winery is not something you would be able to see on your own unless you are fluent in Italian.
After our walk and lots of photos, Paolo rounded us up and drove us back to Modena. We arrived back in the city center around 2pm (I think).
Mr. J and I spent the rest of the afternoon in Modena before heading back to Bologna on the train.
A great day all around.
